John P. Alderton was born in Cumberland, MD and Studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in General Fine Arts.

Some of John's recent works are paintings of local orchards and glass and porcelain mosaics.

“I've been sacrificing 22K gold porcelain and fiesta ware in order to create these grotto style mosaics that have huge architectural and personal influences”.

John also utilizes gold, silver and copper leaf to add dimension to the glass he uses on his mosaics.

Included in John's repertoire of artwork is mural painting. His first murals were done while in high school at age 16. Later, while in college, he painted murals at various locales in Baltimore city such as restaurants and nightclubs. John moved back to Cumberland in 1994 and shortly after established a small business now called Fine Art Finishes through which he specializes in mosaics, gilding, faux finishes, trompe l'oeil and murals.

John's recent murals include public and private spaces. In 2003 he participated in the completion of the mural on the exterior wall of the Cumberland Times-News. The following year he was invited to perform restoration on the mural located above the proscenium at the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center in Baltimore, MD.  In 2005 he painted the five-postcard mural on the exterior of “The Pub at Kelly's Station”, and has painted several more interior murals since then.

John is in a constant flow of creation, either working on plein -air landscapes, creating mosaics, drafting new murals or beautifying home interiors. His work has been exhibited at the Hazen Gallery, The Cumberland Theatre, The Manhattan Center, The Connoisseur and the Saville Gallery.

As far as my own personal artwork goes I consider myself a neo-Fauvist”.
